Google Places with Hotpot now available for iPhone

Section: iPhone / iPod touch / iPad, iPhone, iDevice Apps

GoogleWhen Google released Google Places for Android, I was wondering whether the company had plans of making the app available for iPhone as well. Well, that question has been answered as Google has released Google Places with Hotpot for iPhone. In case you’re not aware, Google Places is a pretty cool location-based app that lets you quickly search for places nearby and personalizes the results based on places you’ve rated. It’s actually a toned done version of Foursquare.

Google Places for iPhone makes it easy and fast for you to find the best places you want to visit next. Additionally, it’s a great app for sharing places you’ve visited as well. The app uses Google Maps for plotting places nearby and gives you the available information about those places as well as the ratings given by others who may have gone to the place before you.

Google Places requires you to sign in to your Google Account. This is important for the location feature to be activated. As you rate places, the more Google Places learns about your tastes and preferences. The app then uses this information to come up with recommendations that are tailored to your tastes and preferences.

To make the sharing feature even more fun, you might want to check out google.com/hotpot from your desktop as well. From there, you can add friends and rate the places they’ve been to as well. All ratings you give to these places will also be taken into account by the app the next time you search for new spots using Google Places on your iPhone.

Google Places for iPhone is available as a free download from the App Store.
