FIFA 12 full game, available on Xbox Live this weekend

For EA Sports Season Ticket holders

EA Sports Season Ticket holders will be able to download the full version of FIFA 12 from Xbox LIVE on Saturday 24 September, 6 days ahead of its official release.?

The EA Sports Season Ticket was announced back in August, and this is the first big title that has hit the mix.

For 2,000 Microsoft Points the Season Ticket gives access to play all participating games via a full-game digital download at least three days before they hit the shops, a 20 per cent discount on downloadable game content, free premium web content and "membership recognition".

FIFA 12 goes live at 5pm on Saturday. Don't worry if you can't bare to miss out - the Season Ticket option is still available to grab now.

As well as the full game, downloaders will also be able to take part in a real-life scenario challenge. Participants will take control of Chelsea and try to battle back from a 3-1 deficit to Manchester United.

Taking Torres off would be the obvious starting point. The challenge runs until Friday 30 September, release day for the physical game.

To get involved, simply follow these instructions:

Step 1: Install the EA SPORTS App, then launch it by selecting “Play Game” from your Game Library.

Step 2:?The EA SPORTS App counts down to the Early Release availability in real-time, starting seven days before retail availability. Note that the exact day and time varies per region.

Step 3:?When the countdown timer reaches zero, the menu will update with a “Download” option. You will need to confirm the download from the Xbox 360 Guide.

Step 4:?If you have not already purchased an EA SPORTS Season Ticket you will be prompted to purchase before you can download an Early Release game.

Step 5:?Once you have started the Early Release download, you can exit the EA SPORTS App without interrupting the download. Just don’t power off your Xbox 360 or disconnect from Xbox LIVE. Be aware that other actions (e.g. attempting to play a different game) might pause the download.

Step 6:?Once the Early Release finishes downloading you can launch it from your Game Library.

Step 7:?Once an Early Release has been made available for download, the EA SPORTS App menu updates to count down the time remaining before that Early Release becomes unavailable for download.

The downloaded version will stop working once the game goes on sale in the shops. Eat my goal.

Fire sale TouchPad returns to HP employee store; store promptly brought to knees by traffic

HP is building another 100,000-200,000 TouchPads to clear out their supplier inventory and make good on those contracts they signed. They also have some 300,000 employees around the globe. Those two numbers created a perfect storm today as HP opened up their Employee Purchase Program with fresh $99 and $149 TouchPads available as of 9:00AM Pacific Time. And by 9:01AM the store had been brought down by the crushing demand of several thousand employees at once all looking to snag themselves a TouchPad.

We don’t know how many TouchPads HP allocated to the employee store, but we can safely say that however no matter how many they set aside, the sold them all in a matter of hours, if not minutes. All one need do to verify is call the employee store phone purchase line, which one HP employee told us was experiencing “impossible wait lines.” If only somebody could point HP in the direction of a good enterprise services firm that could manage their servers under heavy traffic load.

What does this mean for when these TouchPads eventually make it to the consumer market? Well, we’re hoping that HP learned the lesson of retailers offering fire sale TouchPads last month and set aside a limited number for the EPP store, with the rest to go to consumer sales. There will be a few thousand fewer TouchPads available from the ambiguous 100,00-200,000 units expected to be produced (or already produced?), and given the demand exhibited by just HP employees, we’re expecting similar website crashing next month when they’re made available.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 carrier unlock now available for jailbroken iPhones running iOS 4.3.1

Anyone who relies on a carrier unlock to use their iPhone on another GSM carrier, can now take the iOS 4.3.1 plunge thanks to ultrasn0w 1.2.1. The iPhone Dev-Team have worked their magic to make ultrasn0w functional once again for the iPhone 4 (GSM), 3GS and 3G, and to correct a signal bar issue for anyone maintaining an older baseband but not using an unlock.

It's important to note that this isn't a new carrier unlock, and still requires an older baseband. Therefore if you're intending to upgrade to iOS 4.3.1 make sure you use something like Pwnage Tool to maintain your existing baseband, and do not just upgrade using iTunes in the hope of using redsn0w to jailbreak, as that will result in ultrasn0w being locked out.

Once you've jailbroken your iPhone using Pwnage Tool, fire up Cydia and search for ultrasn0w to get your carrier unlock installed, then just reboot your phone. Voila! Carrier unlocked.

The Lovefilm Player for iPad is such an obvious and welcomed application that it's a wonder that it's taken so long to arrive. For starters, the look and feel is identical to the service's other portals on Samsung and Sony home entertainment kit and the PS3, and the quality and film choice apes what's available on those and through the company's own PC online streaming platforms.

Now, obviously, this isn't the first Lovefilm app to hit the iPad. The first was limited in functionality, however, and while it offered a searchable user interface to order rentable movies, it only dealt with the postal side of the Lovefilm business. The new player also offers access to its streamed video service too, allowing those with a relevant subscription to watch full films on their tablet device.

There are many different subscriptions you can opt for, with the streaming service being an add-on to a paid postal option. The cheapest you can get weighs in at ?5.99 a month, but that only offers 2 hours worth of streamed content per month (with three physical discs able to be rented). You'll really need to spend at least ?9.99 per month if you want unlimited streaming, but if you do, you'll be impressed with the quality.

Where on a 55-inch TV, the standard definition bitrates can look a little pale and not quite DVD quality, the iPad app benefits from presenting its fare on a smaller, brighter screen.

In fact, you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between a streamed Lovefilm movie, or a bought one through a service such as iTunes. And, depending on the age of the film, some of the video performance is excellent all round.

The only real issue is the content itself, or rather, lack of it.

Unfortunately, it's still early doors for Lovefilm's streaming service - Netflix it ain't.

The company, Amazon-affiliation or no, has only got a few license deals in place, so the choice of films you can view are limited. And barely any of them are particularly current.

That said, we're suckers for old flicks such as Bullitt and world cinema like the first Battle Royale, and it's certainly easy to find something to watch through its search and genre tabulated systems. And should you want to order the most recent films to watch on Blu-ray or DVD, the player encompasses that functionality too.

If you own an iPad and subscribe to Lovefilm, it truly is a no-brainer. Especially as it's free.

Opera 11.10 includes improved power saving features

Just recently, the Opera 11.10 release candidate was made available for download. It brought a handful of important feature additions -- like HTML5 File API support and IMAP enhancements -- and loads of bugfixes. Nestled in amongst the other details in the Opera team's announcement is one more interesting tidbit: Opera 11.10 offers improved battery optimizations.

The timing here is certainly interesting, what with Microsoft's recent report on how much power the top five Web browsers consume. In its findings, Opera 11 was fairly low in the standings. While we've not seen any new benchmarks yet, we're curious to know whether the Opera 11.10 RC offers any significant gains.
