Spare a thought for the poor old Samsung Galaxy Tab. Once the toast of the Android tablet world, the 7-incher has had to sit back and watch as Honeycomb tablets literally Xoom past it over in Vegas.

But there is some good news in Galaxy Tab land as Verizon announced during its event at CES that a 4G version (proper 4G as well, it's LTE-enabled) will be coming out later this year.

And what's more, the LTE SamTab has received a couple of little hardware boosts as well - the new version will be rocking a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor (as opposed to the 1GHz one currently found) and you'll also get more megapixels on the rear facing camera, as it will boast a 5-megapixel one (currently just the 3).

The 4G Galaxy Tab was just one of a host of LTE devices that the US carrier named.

Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless, said, “Today, we’re unveiling the next evolution of 4G LTE for consumers. During this three-year journey, from acquiring spectrum to launch, we not only transformed our network, but also our business by engaging in a strategy of collaboration and openness, while driving partnerships that will make 4G LTE successful across the globe. The result is true magic – the sum of a powerful network, applications, software systems and devices that bring 4G LTE to life.”

There's no launch details for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4G as of yet but we'll keep you posted.
