Sony has finally entered the tablet market officially confirming that it will launch two Honeycomb?Android tablets later this year called the S1 and S2 and ending months of rumours at the same time.

The S1?will feature a 9.4-inch display, works as a universal remote control for your television and allows you to throw personal content to TVs and music to wireless speakers via DLNA like the Panasonic Viera Tablet launched at CES in January.

The S2?will feature a dual 5.5-inch display and come with the same “throwing” capabilities but be designed to be more portable. It comes with front and rear facing cameras and packs a Tegra 2 chip to handle the graphics.

The two tablets, currently sporting codenames - a new theme with Sony products (NGP anyone?) - will be available around the world in “autumn 2011”.

Sony Tablet, as the two are being referred to by Sony will both come with Android 3.0, sport Wi-Fi and WAN (3G/4G) and Sony’s music, gaming, and eBook services; Qriocity. They'll also boast the PlayStation Suite, and Reader Store.

“Sony Tablet delivers an entertainment experience where users can enjoy cloud-based services on-the-go at any time. We’re aiming to create a new lifestyle by integrating consumer hardware, including Sony Tablet, with content and network,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, corporate executive, SVP, and deputy president of Consumer Products & Services Group.?

“Through Sony Tablet, users can control home entertainment devices as well as enjoy content in new ways. S1 uses infrared technology and works as universal remote controls for a variety of AV devices, starting with Bravia. Users can perform functions such as turning on their TVs, changing the channel and adjusting the volume.”
