This week on the Free Apps Roundup: It’s my birthday! Happy Birthday me. Yes, it’s a shameless self congratulations, but I brought treats…er, “party favors,” so that makes it okay, right? Free Apps for everybody! I found some great apps, a couple of games, and even a stats app. So, get to it already, download some free apps!
- WWDC - If you were lucky enough to register for WWDC this year in that extremely short time window, this is the app you’ll want to keep track of conference information at WWDC. You can search the conference schedule, make reservations at the Labs, view the map of Moscone and keep up with WWDC news. If you didn’t get to register for WWDC, you can at least view some images from the conference, which are promised to be updated daily.
- Stats of the Union - An app only a mathematician could love. And since I just happen to be a mathematician, I love it. This app puts glorious medical statistics at your fingertips. Seriously, what more could you ask for in life? I’m really struggling here…the data is aggregated by the Community Health Status Indicators report from various federal agencies. It’s then presented with a pretty neat looking map of the US. iPad only.
- Cube Dog 3D Toy - Remember Tamagotchis? Of course you do, and even now you’re oddly drawn to their seemingly pointless gameplay. This is the latest incarnation of that virtual pet idea. You can do all the normal things with Cube Dogs, but what’s really cool is that you can take augmented reality pictures of your cube dog on top of real things with your camera.
- DealLocator - Here’s an app that promises to find all the deals near you, wherever you are. In fact, they claim it goes anywhere on planet Earth, though I challenge you to find a good deal on Antarctica, or the Lost island perhaps. All it asks is for your location data so it can find hundreds of companies just waiting to give you a sweet deal. Probably worth a look.
- ClassicBooth - There’s just something about photo booths. You see one, and instantly you feel compelled to take goofy pictures. While this app won’t give you the claustrophobic factor that likely makes these images so amazing, it will do mostly the same thing for you and spit out the digital equivalent.
- Snappy Timer - iOS comes with a pretty sweet clock app, but perhaps you want more in the way of timers. This app allows you to color code your timer. Why would you need to do that? I don’t know, maybe if you wanted to run more than one at a time, which you can also do here. There are also icons to further customize your timers. This app is universal and ad supported.
- Photo Rage - Sometimes you just feel like destroying something beautiful, especially if your name is Tyler. One way to let out that rage is with this app. It lets you cut up photos on your iOS device. How often do you really need to shred up a picture? I don’t know, but this could be an awesome cat toy…
- Rapidity - Ever wanted to know how fast you’re going? This app is your virtual speedometer and altimeter. Use it while on a boat, in a plane or just riding a scooter to see if that sweet ninja tuck is worth how ridiculous it makes you look.
- SaveTunes - Something tells me this app won’t be available for long. Basically, you can use it to extract MP3 and M4A files form your iOS device’s iTunes Library to the in-app storage space. This allows you to take songs from your iOS device and put them back on your computer. This could be useful if you somehow lost the music present on your desktop and only have it on your device. Only non DRMed files will worth, though. Free for a limited time, if it’s even around that long.
- Back to the Future Ep 1 HD - Now that Back to the Future Ep 4 is available on the App Store, they’ve decided to offer Ep 1 for free for the remainder of the month. It’s normally $6.99, so if you love Back to the Future as much as the rest of us, do yourself a favor and at least check out the first episode of this game series. This game has been going back and forth between free and paid for whatever reason, but if the press release is to be believed, it’ll stay free for the rest of the month. So, if it’s not free now, check back soon.
