Create pencil and paper RPG maps with Dundjinni

Section: Mac Software, Games

If you’re into role playing games, either as a player or a DM, sometimes you just need a good map. Whether it is to give the players a fighting shot of surviving your dungeon, or simply because it saves you a lot of time and effort in describing locations, few people can deny their value. Creating them by hand, however, can be a hassle and next to impossible if, like me, you lack artistic skills beyond the creation of stick figures.

A solid, multi-purpose piece of map generating software can therefore be a reasonable investment if you game on a regular basis. But which one should you get? There are a few Mac compatible options out on the market, and most of them make similar quality of maps. So, it really comes down to ease of use and the ability to expand beyond the base set.

Dundjinni does well enough on both fronts. It’s fairly easy to use, as all of the items are drag and drop with a wide range of backgrounds as well.

When you get sick of the backgrounds or items, you can add more. Some of them are paid packs, but there is a nice community of fans who put out free packs once and awhile.

On the whole, this is a solid choice that assists with the creation of good maps. It’s available online for $39.95 and requires an Intel Mac running Mac OS X. A free demo is available.
