Home to highlight live content
YouTube plans to take on services like Qik and Justin.tv with a new live streaming service launched on Friday.
The new offering, called YouTube Live will promote live content streaming on YouTube.
“With over 2 billion views a day, it's easy to think about YouTube as a place to watch videos recorded in the past. But you’ve told us you want more - and that includes events taking place right now. In response, we’ve live streamed a number of popular concerts, sporting events, and interviews, but primarily on a one-off basis,” says YouTube on it’s blog.
According to YouTube, YouTube Live will let you find the most compelling live events happening on YouTube and add events to your calendar so you can make sure your in the right place at the right time to watch them. You’ll be able to subscribe to your favourite YouTube live-streaming partners to be notified of upcoming live streams on your customized homepage.
YouTube says that the plan is to eventually roll out our live streaming service to thousands of partners with the capability to live stream from their channels in the months ahead, but initially start with a small handful to begin with.
