Building your own city can be fun, but do you think you can keep an actual city in motion? A European city, no less, as the population commutes between their homes, jobs, and leisure sites? In Cities in Motion, you’ll visit Vienna, Helsinki, Berlin, and Amsterdam and manage their public transportation systems between 1920 and 2020. You’ll build lines for trains, trams, boats, buses, and helicopters while dealing with commuters, negotiating with banks, and navigating shifting economic trends.
Each city is rendered in rich 3D detail, with over 100 unique buildings, an underground view, and more than 30 vehicles based on their real-life counterparts. Residents belong to seven different social groups, each with specific behaviors that need to be a accommodated as people travel between their homes, jobs, and vacation destinations.
The included campaign features 12 scenarios. A sandbox mode allows you to play in all four campaign cities to your heart’s content, while the advanced map editor lets you create your own metropolises.
I guess that’s why it’s set outside the U.S., where I could create my own public transportation system connecting Cleveland to Cincinnati, for example, but my governor would just shut it down and send the funds set aside for it outside of his own state, killing thousands of jobs and hurting the environment so big oil can continue its record breaking profits.
But I digress.
