Intel AR fitting room tries on Japan for size

CEATEC 2011: Weird tech on show from chip giant

When we heard that Intel would be a big presence at the Japanese company dominated showcase that is CEATEC, we wondered just what the chip giant may be showing off.

Ultrabooks were obviously high on the agenda; with all existing models (from Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba) on show.

But, apart from those, it's clear that the US company fully embraced the wacky side of Japanese tech with a number of fun demos taking place. We've already told you about the brilliant Cyberdyne HAL robot show that was part of the company's keynote and on its stand Intel also kept it quirky.

First up was the augmented reality virtual fitting room; which we easily see catching on if Mrs. Pocket-lint's fondness for standing in front of a mirror trying on clothes is anything to go by.

This works by the user wearing a marker t-shirt that is overlaid with a number of different garments that are displayed on the virtual mirror. The user is able to switch colours, sizes and style simply by touching points on the t-shirt, or by using the user interface.

This obviously has huge potential as we move into an ever increasing e-retail environment.

Intel also had its “Intel Girl's Inside” demo going on which showed off, er, we're not sure really. An AR marker hat was worn, which turned the demoee into a panda. A crying panda.

Nope, no idea why. We liked it though.
