Here we go again with another round of iOS app data. This time, it’s coming from Distimo. According to their latest report covering the period April-October 2010, there are now more than 300,000 apps in the Apple App Store. This includes apps for iPhone and iPad, as well as those that work with both (or what are more popularly known as universal iOS apps).
Drilling down to specifics, the report shows that the proportion of iPad apps has outgrown the universal apps during Q2, only to be reversed in July 2010 when the proportion of apps between iPad and universal apps became equal at 7%. When it comes to pricing, iPad app prices increased from $4.34 in April to $4.97 in October 2010. This amounts to a more than 14.5% increase. The iPhone app prices during the said period increased from $3.94 to $4.03, or a 2.3% increase.
The average price of the top 100 paid apps was 171% higher for iPad than iPhone in October 2010. This can best be explained by the fact that the majority of iPhone apps are priced $0.99, while only 24% are for iPad.
Also, the popular Angry Birds is the top paid app for both iPhone and iPad.
Going now to specific numbers pertaining to apps added, the report shows that the iPad App Store has added 32,714 apps while the iPhone App Store has added 73,309 apps. Does this mean that iPhone apps are more popular than their iPad counterparts?
With this trend, it only goes to show that Apple’s mobile app business continues to thrive and bring Apple more profits. Quite an amazing feat indeed.
