Samsung and Verizon have launched a?dual screen Android 2.1 phone?handset for the US market at a packed event in New York City, and Pocket-lint was there to have a quick hands-on fumble before getting to work on bringing you a more in-depth first look review.

The key selling point, says Samsung, is a mini 1.8-inch screen, which is designed to be glanced at to save you turning on the battery-sucking bigger screen. It's activated by squeezing the phone at the sides. ?

Notifications that you’ll get include incoming calls, new messages and customized, real-time updates from the user's favourite sources and accounts.

The Samsung Continuum will be available for order in the US starting 11 November in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at Verizon’s website. It'll cost $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new 2-year customer agreement and data package.

There's a 5-megapixel camera, and the phone comes with 8GB of memory pre-installed via microSD in the box. You'll also get 720p video recording.
