Remember when an FCC filing revealed the possibility of an iPod Touch case that used Sprint’s network as a way to connect to the internet from anywhere? Well, that product is now a reality. Beginning November 14th, 2010, customers of the ZTE PEEL will be able to cradle their 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Touch in a case that gives them full access to Sprint’s 3G network. The product will sell for the relatively low price of $79.99, and a data plan priced at $29.99 will allow for 1GB of 3G data per month with no annual contract required (talk about awesome).
While many people may have purchased an iPod Touch to not have to pay the expensive plans associated with the iPhone, I still think this product will do well; the hardware and monthly plan are affordable. However, while the device gives Internet to the iPod Touch specifically, it’s basically just a mobile hotspot, as with MiFi. This means you could theoretically connect other devices to it wirelessly to give them Internet access as well. It’s a great idea.
