The Schosche kickBACK is a hard shell iPhone case (polycarbonate exterior with a shock resistant rubber interior) with a gimmick: it has a kickstanda folding leg (on a metal hinge) that props up the iPhone in landscape mode.
The case is sturdy, if a little plain. It wraps around the iPhone in one piece with the volume buttons and mute switch exposed. The lip around the top protects your screen if you set it face down. There’s nothing wrong with the case, but it’s just sort of there; it covers the iPhone, concealing its design, without adding anything of its own.
The kickstand props up the iPhone at a good angle for watching videos. Airplane travelers will find it useful for watching movies in the cramped quarters. The major problem with the kickstand is that it only works in landscape mode. Try to prop it up in portrait and folds immediately. Another minor quibble is that the kickstand isn’t perfectly flush with the case when it’s retracted. But if you need to watch movies, or need to use an app (like Facetime) where holding it for long periods would be inconvenient, the kickBACK is a serviceable option.
How useful you’ll find the kickBACK depends on how often you prop your iPhone up at an angle. I’ll keep it handy for my next flight, then switch it out when I arrive at my destination.
