The solo FX for iPhone 4 differs from many cases I’ve personally reviewed for the simple reason that it isn’t a hard case, which is a nice change of pace. The problem with a lot of soft cases, though, is that they often end up attracting/sticking to things in your pocket, which can be annoying. The solo FX is a little different in this regard, though.

iSkin case

Shaped for the iPhone 4, the solo FX has the top of the case open so that the iPhone can slide in from the top. As expected, it also leaves holes for the vibration switch and the camera/flash. However, the home button and volume control buttons remain covered by a thinner form of the same plastic the entire case is made out of. Fortunately, the pin connector and speakers on the bottom are left open to enable syncing with the case on.

The case comes in five different colors and is, for the most part, slightly transparent. While the front and sides are just clear, the back also has an interesting bubble type design imprinted into it. The texture of the material has a sturdy, slightly grippy feel that feels just about right for a gel case. Basically, the design is quite simple and straight forward, which is one thing I like about it.

The iSkin solo FX isn’t going to protect your phone too much from a drop. It doesn’t, for instance, cover the top corners of the glass front. While it would be great for protection from everyday scratches and use, I don’t think the protection factor would extend much beyond that.

Still, it’s a great case that was designed very well, overall. It’s definitely one of the better soft cases I’ve seen.
