EXCLUSIVE: Tablet gets staggered launch
RIM’s UK MD Steven Bates has told Pocket-lint, in a one to one briefing, that the BlackBerry Playbook will be launching in the UK in early Q2; giving us the hope that the new tablet could be here as early as April - next month.
“It’s end of Q1 for the US,” Bates confirmed, dispelling rumours that the US launch had slipped. He then went on to tell us that, “Europe is Q2... The UK will be one of the early ones.”
The comments come just days after a leak made claims that the PlayBook wouldn’t be launching in the US until April.
According to BGR, multiple sources have said that RIM's very first tablet will be launching on 10 April in retail locations.
As for the reason for the staggered global launch - something that seems to be becoming more and more popular? Bates says that it’s worked out well for RIM in the past.
“We had one for BlackBerry Torch and it worked quite nicely.”
The PlayBook was first announced in San Francisco in September 2010, but its launch window hasn’t been officially nailed down as yet, until now.?
