Virgin Media broadband hits 1 million homes

And 100Mb service "on-track"

Virgin Media has announced that it has reached 1 million homes for its home broadband service.

The milestone has been hit as the cable giant continues to roll out its superfast 100Mb service, which is still on course to be nationwide by the middle of next year.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media said: "Reaching the one million home milestone is a hugely important step in ensuring consumers are able to keep up with the latest developments in this digitally connected world.?

"We had more then 10,000 registrations on the first day we unveiled 100Mb so there is real desire for better broadband and all the wonderful things you can do with a fast connection.?

"When we finish the roll-out of 100Mb across our network, half the country will have access to ultrafast broadband. That’ll be six years ahead of EU targets."

Virgin Media has also announced that it will be taking over the House of St Barnabas as a members club, and renaming it "Our House" for a month long showcase of its tech.

Within the 10 spaces (seven rooms, a bar, a garden and a chapel) Virgin Media will be showing off kit such as the 100Mb broadband, as well as the Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo platform and will be keeping up the charity side of St Barnabas as well.

Simon Dornan, head of PR campaigns at Virgin Media, said: "The superiority of our network really has to be seen to be believed.? It’s all very well boasting about how fast our 100Mb broadband is or how compelling our new TiVo powered TV service is, but we want people to experience it for themselves.?

"Our House is the perfect vehicle to do that - a central London private members’ club offering superb connectivity with the latest technology and entertainment, as well as a chance to support a worthy organisation."

The club will be open Monday to Friday, 9am to 11pm from 28 March until 21 April.
