Add/remove text shortcuts in Text Assist [webOS 2.x]

This tip is only for devices running webOS 2.0 and higher

While webOS 2.0 brought a significant overhaul to how autocorrection works on your webOS device by opening up the user dictionary, it also gives you access to text shortcuts. These shortcuts allow you to convert easy-to-type text into larger words or phrases. Many of the built-in shortcuts were present in webOS 1.x, such as "r" being converted to "are", but now you can edit or add to the shortcuts directly on the device. And these are not limited to just a single word, as you can create a shortcut that expands to a whole phrase, such as "PC" changing to "PreCentral, a Smartphone Experts website"

To make changes to these shortcuts, open up the Text Assist app (

) and tap on the "Edit User Dictionary" button on the bottom of the screen. On the "Shortcuts" tab, you will see a list of all the existing shortcuts that currently exist

• To add a shortcut, just tap on the + sign on the bottom-left of this page, and on the "New Shortcut" screen, enter the shortcut text and what you want to expand that into.
• To edit a shortcut, just tap on it and edit it on the next screen
• To remove any shortcuts that have already been entered, just swipe-to-delete it off the screen and confirm the deletion.
