Teenage entrepreneur accused of selling stolen goods
Fei Lam is like a modern-day teenage Derek Trotter.
You see the 17-year old spotted the gaping white iPhone 4 sized hole in the smartphone market and decided to do something about it.
So the New York student got on the blower to Foxconn, who manufacturer the iPhone for Apple, ordered up some legit iPhone parts, and has now raked in over $130,000 selling his conversion kits at $279 a pop.
The kits, which include a back panel and a front panel along with a white home button, are available on his website www.whiteiphone4now.com.
But it isn't all fun and games for Lam though, as he has now apparently been accused by a private investigator of selling stolen goods.
"They are some kind of anti-counterfeit/trademark firm, which sounds ridiculous, similar to what Apple is bringing up to remove White iPhone 4 Listings on eBay", said Lam. "I don't know how this legal stuff works".
Now it's not clear if Lam is just being ultra-clever by inventing the whole legal story in order to drum up some more interest for his project, or whether Apple really has employed the services of an investigator.
What is clear though, is that if you're prepared to pay almost $300 for what is essentially a glorified fascia, then you need your head checked.
As for Lam, good on him - let's hope that he's saved some of that money for a good lawyer just in case.
