Boxee firmware update adds Vudu support

The front of the brand new Boxee Box

If there was ever a reason to update your Boxee box, today’s news would be it. According to the Boxee blog, the latest firmware update for their product will bring support for Vudu, a high definition, on demand movie service (which is unfortunately only available in the United States).

In the words of the Boxee team:

VUDU on the Boxee Box means: access to the largest selection of HD movies on-demand, new releases (same day as DVD), thousands of movies available for rental at $2 for 2 nights. We are psyched.

That’s pretty great, if you ask me. 24fps 1080p HD video with 5.1 surround sound couldn’t get much better from a streaming movie service. Better yet, Vudu is offering people who sign up through their Boxee Box a $5.99 credit.

In addition, this firmware update brings the usual enhancements and bug fixes you’d expect from an update. In fact, the list over at Boxee’s blog is actually quite long, so check it out if there’s been a bug you’ve been waiting to fixed.
