Veil lifted off of webOS 2.0 SDK NDA and European Dev Events

It was an article (and attached comments) here on PreCentral the other day that inspired Richard Kerris, the new VP of Worldwide Developer Relations at Palm, to send a word of encouragement to webOS app developers and announce some changes coming to his division this year. The biggest news that effects us this week would be about the 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) that has been under Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for so long:

"We will release the SDK and remove the NDA for 2.0 THIS week. There’s no rational excuse that it took us so long to do it, so I won’t try and coat the obvious."

There's no word on an exact time they'll be dropping this for us, but if it's coming this week as he says it is then we'll definitely support that decision. Hey, better late than never.

webOSIgnite! Events Coming to London on March 30th

Kerris also mentioned (in his comment and on Twitter) new Developer training days at the Palm HQ and abroad to help get devs on track with their projects. At least some of these seem to be the same events being announced at webOSIgnite! for our European friends in London, Paris and Berlin, with plans to expand elsewhere as we get further into 2011. The current schedule looks like at least one event in those locations every three months, but with hopes to have one every month for devs to keep connected.

It doesn't seem that these events will be on the same scale as Dev Day NYC 2010, but with HP backing up the webOSIgnite! team in getting the events set, we're pretty sure there will be a lot of good things that come from the initiative. Of course, that's all speculation at this point, since the website where you can get all of this info is pretty bare on details. What we do know is that the first event is coming to London on March 30th, but we'll keep you updated as we find out more.

Will a released 2.0 SDK be the open door you were looking for to start (or finish) your own projects? Or are you going to have to take advantage of those dev events, first? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to tell us if you're going to be in London. Maybe we'll see you there.
