Sony has announced its new Vaio L series all-in-one multimedia PC, which the company hopes will become the centre of your family's multimedia world.

In the hope you'll make the Sony Vaio L series all-in-one PC a sort of multimedia focal point in your home, Sony has made it pretty slim along with, "a space-saving design featuring a glossy black finish, with the tilt-adjustable ‘floating’ display resting on a sleek V-shaped stand".

The screen consists of a 24-inch Full HD display with LED backlight, and should be ample for everyone to crowd round to view photos or video from your latest holiday.

However, it's main innovation is the introduction of an interactive bezal, which is basically an extension of the touchscreen, but with specific points along the edge performing specific functions. You'll be able to open and scrol through files zoom and rotate images with intuitive fingertip gestures… and no mouse or menus needed.

"Touching the VAIO logo in the top corner of the bezel launches Media Gallery - the intuitive way to browse and enjoy your collection of photos, videos and music. Other touch-sensitive regions of the bezel let you navigate or zoom documents and web pages, flick between on-screen windows, launch an on-screen ‘virtual’ keyboard or view a handy operation guide. There’s also an illuminated Sony logo on the bezel that dims at a touch for comfortable viewing in darkened rooms".

The meat of the device consists of an Intel Core i7 or i5 processor, which should give plenty of grunt for dealing with the majority of your media, and it also sports Nvidia with DX11 support for any HD video you want to play.

There's also the option for Blu-ray disc writer allowing you to create, edit and store HD content with up to 50GB of storage on a single Blu-ray Disc. Whilst the S-Force Front Surround 3D should complement this.

Wireless data transfers are accelerated by Bluetooth 3.0, while SuperSpeed USB 3.0 boosts file transfer speeds by up to ten times compared with USB 2.0.

The Sony all-in-one 24-inch VAIO L Series multimedia PC should be available from early May 2011, though no word on pricing.
