Honeycomb: What devices are Android 3.0 ready?

A bevy of manufacturers have announced Android 3.0 devices at CES in Las Vegas this year, so we've put together a simple and easy to understand list, featuring all the devices that have been confirmed as Honeycomb (Android 3.0) ready.

We will try to update this list as we here more details of devices that are running the new Google Android Operating System.

Asus Eee Pad MeMo

Taking on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Asus Eee Pad MeMo will feature a 7-inch capacitive display, powered by a Qualcomm snapdragon chipset.

Running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) the new tablet will offer 1080p playback and offer support for a stylus.?It will come with dual cameras for video calling, and feature a MeMIC media phone extender, along with a mini-HDMI to hook-up to your TV.

It will debut in June.

Asus Eee Pad Slider

The Asus Eee Pad Slider is a tablet with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard similar to the HTC Shift from some years ago. Essentially it has the same 10.1-inch IPS 1280 x 800 display as the Transformer.

The new Eee Pad Slider weighs 886 grams, is 16.7mm thick and comes with Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor. Android 3.0 ready, it offers the same two camera setup, wireless n connectivity and same Adobe Flash 10.1 support as the Transformer.?

It will debut in May.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer

The company has also launched the Eee Pad Transformer. It will sport a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 IPS touchscreen display that can be connected to a keyboard instantly turning it into a laptop. Like the Eee Pad MeMo, it will also run Android 3.0.

Specs include dual cameras (1.2MP and 5MP), wireless n, USB, Bluetooth and built-in card reader. It will come with 1080p playback, supporting Adobe Flash 10.1 and be powered by an Android-savvy Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor.?

Toshiba Honeycomb tablet

Toshiba's yet to officially give a name to its Honeycomb offering announced at CES, however that doesn't mean it's been shy giving details of what the tablet will pack.?

What we do know is that it will feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen display, come with?Toshiba’s EasyGrip, and be powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip with integrated Nvidia graphics meaning full frame-rate 1080p HD video playback and support for Adobe Flash 10.1.

It will also feature a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a full-size HDMI?port to easily share photos and video on an HDTV, a full-size USB and a mini USB 2.0 port for connecting external devices.

A full-size SD Card slot provides options for additional storage and transferring files. The device will also be equipped with Bluetooth?for easy device connectivity and fast 802.11n Wi-Fi?support for easily connecting to the web from home, the office or Wi-Fi hotspots.

The Toshiba tablet will be available in the first half of 2011, says the company.

Acer Iconia Tab A500

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 will connect on the Verizon LTE network in the States, but whether or not it makes its way over to European shores is not known. It’s got a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with a Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz dual core processor running the show and an Android OS to pull it all together - but not without an Acer UI (4.5) over the top. Flash 10.1 support has been confirmed.

Beyond that, specs are sketchy but the Iconia A500 will be optimised for a HD web experience, 3D gaming and multimedia playback, so this isn’t going to be a stifled businessy experience. No pricing details yet and not so much of a picture of the device either. Expect Pocket-lint to hunt one down in the coming days.

Motorola Xoom

We knew it was coming and there’s been no disappointment with the launch of the Motorola Xoom. It’s a 10.1-inch, Android Honeycomb tablet with a 16:10 aspect, HD, 1280 x 800px display that’ll playback 1080p video and capture at 720p through a 5-megapixel camera.

At its heart beats a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU with connections via 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and even a decent sized 32GB lump of on-board storage as well. The first wave coming in Q1 will not be LTE supporting, but the Q2 updates will be fully 4G. Throw in 10 hours of pure video battery life and we reckon everyone’s happy.

Dell Streak 7

Dell?has confirmed it will launch a 7-inch version of its?Dell?Streak Android tablet at CES in Las Vegas. The new tablet, plans to go up against the likes of the?Samsung Galaxy?Tab and Motorola’s new Xoom tablet. The new Dell Streak 7 will come with Android 2.2 at launch although Dell has confirmed that it will be getting Honeycomb (Android 3.0) very soon after launch.

It will get a speed boost with an Nvidia Tegra dual-core processor superchip.?The Streak 7’s built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth capability and innovative front- and rear-facing cameras, make chatting face-to-face with friends over 3G or Wi-Fi connections nice and simple; 4G connectivity will be available in the US. All of that is topped off with Gorilla Glass to make sure you don’t wreck your tablet the first time you drop it.

LG G-Slate/Optimus Pad (updated)

The T-Mobile branded LG G-slate made its debut at the Las Vegas-based CES show in January 2011, but at the time we didn't know much about it. We now know that the Honeycomb device will have 3D capability and will sport a dual-core Tegra 2 CPU as well as 4G connectivity. It has an 8.9-inch screen and will be able to capture full HD 1080p and 3D video.

A UK version, known as the Optimus Pad, was unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona. Due to land in April, the Optimus Pad will be pretty much identical to the G-Slate, including the 3D recording capability (although the screen itself, isn't 3D capable).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V

Confusingly, this was originally called the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but Samsung has muddied the waters by launching a new, slimmer 10.1 so that the original is now called the 10.1V (with the V referring to its exclusive availability from Vodafone in the UK). Got that?

As the name suggests, the he 10.1V will have a 10.1-inch screen and will be 10.9mm thick. It will have an 8MP camera It's due to hit UK shops in the summer, before the newer 10.1.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

As we've already mentioned above, this is the second version of the 10.1, which is thinner than the original model (which is now known as the 10.1V). The 10.1 will have a trimmed down profile, measuring just 8.9mm, although it will have a lower quality camera than the original version, offering just 3MP, compared to the 10.1V's 8MP. The other major difference is that the 10.1 will have Samsung’s TouchWiz UX skin on top of the Android 3.0 OS, rather than just straight Honeycomb.

Having two models with such similar names is bound to lead to consumer confusion (it sure confused the hell out of us), but Samsung hasn't stopped there, as there's one more model on the cards.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

Samsung has also announced another tablet device called the 8.9 that, as the name suggests, has an 8.9-inch screen (not to be confused with the 8.9mm depth of the Galaxy Tab 10.1). The 8.9 tablet is thinner still, with a svelte profile measuring just 8.6mm.

Sporting Samsung's TouchWiz on top of the Honeycomb OS, the 8.9 weighs in at 470g and has a 1280x800-pixel display along with a 1GHz dual-core processor. It also comes with a rear-facing 3MP camera as well as a 2MP camera on the front, along with 720p video capture capability.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet/Think Slate

Leaked slides reveal that the Chinese manufacturer is set to launch its second-generation tablet in 2011. What we don't know for sure is what it will be called, as the slides name it both as the ThinkPad Tablet and the Think Slate. What we do know is that it will have a 10.1-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x800, along with a dedicated keyboard dock and will come in 16, 32 and 64GB versions.

Powered by a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, the tablet will also feature front and rear cameras, USB, mini-USB, mini-HDMI - with full HD 1080p support - along with an SD card slot and 4G connetivity. The leaked slides also refer to Word, Excel and PowerPoint capability, although at this stage we're not sure whether that simply means that it'll have a third-party office suite or whether they might be a Windows-based tablet on the cards as well. The Lenovo is rumoured to emerge in June and is set to cost $499 when it hits the shops.

Sony Tablet S1 and S2

Sony finally confirmed long-standing rumours about a tablet device when it announced the S1 and S2. Both devices are currently being referred to by the brand as Sony Tablet, and will be packing Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G as well as Sony's Qriocity music, gaming and ebook service, along with PlayStation Suite and Reader Store. The S1 will sport a 9.4-inch screen and will function as a universal remote for your TV, similar to Panasonic's Viera Tablet and you'll also be able to stream your own content to the TV using DLNA.

Meanwhile, the S2 is set to feature a 5.5-inch screen and will come with the same DLNA connectivity as the S1, but in a more portable chassis. It will also feature front and rear-facing cameras and a Tegra dual-core chipset. The S1 and S2 are both due to land in Autumn 2011.
