How to make an album in iPhoto 11

Section: Mac Software, Apple Software, Graphics / Design, Features, How-To

Albums are a great way to group photos that were not taken at the same time, but have a similar theme. Let’s say you want an album of all of the photos that you have taken of your dogs. You probably did not take all of those photos on the same day, or even in the same month. You have been collecting photos of your beloved pooches for years, and it is time to get them organized. Let’s look at how you can create a custom album in iPhoto11.

  1. When you have iPhoto open, click on “Photos” in the Library on the left hand side.
  2. Find at least one picture you want in the album, and click it once to select it (of course, you can command click to select multiple images at once if they’re all on your screen at the same time).
  3. With at least one photo selected, click on “File” in the menu bar, pull down to “New” and select “Album.”
New album in iPhoto 11
  1. When your album is created and named, it’ll appear under “ALBUMS” on the left of the interface. The photo(s) you had selected when you created the album will already be placed.
  2. Go back to the main “Photos” category under “LIBRARY.” Choose the photos that you want to have in your new album, you can choose as many as you want to include in the album. If you plan to hold multiple photos then you need to hold the Command key while you select the images.
  3. Drag your images to your new album.

Now, when you click on this album, you can print them, upload them Facebook, create a calendar, and do more with them as a group.

Oh, and here’s a bonus trick. If you want to create a blank album with no photos in it to begin with, hold the shift key on your keyboard when performing step two above. “Album” will be replaced with “Empty Album.”
