Sub ?80 multimedia device
The View Quest BookBox is being touted as an ebook reader, but in this age of gadget-convergence, it is definitely a device that blurs the digital boundaries.
Capable of displaying ebooks in EPUB, PDF, TXT, FB2, PDB and HTML formats, the BookBox has all of the ebook reading features that you'd expect including bookmarking, auto flip, zooming in and out, screen rotation and text re-flow.
But the device is also a functional MP3 player, and can also playback videos on its 5-inch, 800 x 480, TFT-LCD display. It's all powered by an Arm 9+ DSP 400MHz CPU.
It has 2GB of built-in storage, which is expandable via an SD memory card. It's all cased in a "rubberised" casing, which indicates that it could be a device for the kiddies.
Battery life is okay for a backlit display - 6 hours of ebook reading, with 20 hours of music playback on offer.
The price-tag is definitely the USP of the View Quest BookBox - it's available now for ?79.99 from HMV.
