Better battery life and new keyboard awaits
Nexus One?owners rejoice as the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update has finally arrived for your handsets; bringing with it a whole host of wondrous OS-goodness.
The latest 2.3 update was promised at the beginning of December, the 8th to be exact, and Nexus One owners are now amongst the first (joining Samsung Nexus S owners) to benefit from the most recent feature set.
"Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update now rolling out to Nexus S and Nexus One. Be patient, may take a few weeks for OTA to complete." the official Google Nexus account has tweeted.
Those features include a new, more refined feel to the OS, with a "slick, black notification bar", and there's also a new keyboard to type on, one-touch word selection with copy and paste, whilst better battery management will mean longer battery life.
Some of the improvements however, will not be felt by owners of the Nexus One due to hardware limitations, such as NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality and multiple camera access (as the Nexus One lacks a front-facing camera and NFC chip).
Even so, the addition of built-in VoiP and SIP support will be welcomed as services like Skype, or more likely Google Voice, can be integrated more easily into the phone’s interface.
Expect to get the new features in the next couple of weeks.
