As we mentioned yesterday with the release of iOS 4.2, Find My iPhone—the service Apple provides to MobileMe members to find their phone were it lost or stolen—is now available to anyone with an iPhone running iOS 4.2. This service is great in that it allows you to remotely swipe and lock your phone, as well as send messages to it via the web.

Apple has posted an online guide with the following steps:

  1. Make sure you have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.
  2. Go to Mail, Contacts, and Calendars in Settings.app.
  3. Tap Add Account and then MobileMe.
  4. Enter an Apple ID or MobileMe account email.
  5. Check your email to click a link to verify your email address.
  6. Return to the MobileMe screen on your phone and turn Find My iPhone on.
  7. Sign in to me.com to see if it works.
