The Omni Group

Even if you’re from outside of the productivity space, you’ve probably heard of The Omni Group. With applications like OmniGraffle and OmniFocus, The Omni Group offers software to suit almost every productivity need you may have. And this year at Macworld, they’ve shown up big. With a large showcase booth on the floor, The Omni Group has iPads and Macs displaying some of their awesome work in the Mac/iPhone/iPad development space. There are people buzzing all over trying to see how OMNI can help them become more efficient.

Omni Group Macworld

I had the opportunity to chat with Ken Case, CEO of the Omni Group, about some of the products they’ve launched recently and how they’re doing. If you’ve been in the Mac App Store recently, you’ll notice that the Omni Group has 3 of the top 10 spots on the Top Paid charts for the Business category. They’ve also been doing very well with their iPad apps, which are what Ken spent most of the time showing me. In fact, of all the apps he showed me on the iPad (OmniGraffle for flowcharts, OmniGraphSketcher for graphs, and OmniFocus for tasks), I couldn’t decide which one looked best. The company’s attention to detail and interface was quite impressive, and the developers have definitely mastered the use of Apple’s UI elements. Ken tells me that about 80-90% of the features you’d get in the desktop versions are on the iPad versions as well, which is quite impressive in and of itself.

Oh, and for the OmniOutliner crowd, don’t worry. I’m told (and have seen) that OmniOutliner is currently under development for the iPad and will be out within a few months. And it looks just as great as the other three.

Look for some upcoming reviews from Appletell of these products.
