Report suggests Android apps on QNX
Like the look of the BlackBerry PlayBook, but concerned about the obvious lack of apps?
Well, worry no longer as reports suggest that the QNX platform tablet could be compatible with the thousands (130 of them at the last count) of Android apps.
A Bloomberg report states that Research In Motion will offer an Android app experience on its 9.7-incher, but without the implementation of Google's Java software, Dalvik, due to the ongoing legal wrangles between Google and Oracle regarding ownership of the patent.
In order to get Android apps working on the QNX system, there will need to be an alternative Java virtual machine on board.
Should this happen, then surely the appeal of the PlayBook will increase dramatically. The most often dismissal we hear of the BlackBerry tab centres around people's concerns that the BlackBerry App World cannot compete with the likes of the Apple App Store or Google's Android Market.
Throw Android apps into the PlayBook equation though, and you're talking about a whole new beast.
It will be interesting to see what Google has to say about this - watch this space for further updates.
