Likely to hit China first
Portable PC gaming concept, the Razer Switchblade, is one step closer to becoming a real product after the games accessory company has announced a strategic partnership with both Intel and Chinese provider of games and Internet services, Tencent.
Pocket-lint first encountered the Switchblade during CES 2011, Las Vegas in January and were impressed by its prospects, with?Windows 7 on board, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, Mini-HDMI, USB 3.0, and standard headphone and mic ports. The?ultra-sensitive multi-touch screen is a nice touch, but it's main USP is a?dynamic tactile keyboard that shows a different control scheme depending on the game loaded.
And it's this element?predominantly?that has attracted Tencent: "We're really excited to bring the revolutionary Razer Switchblade to millions of gamers connected to our games, allowing them to experience our world of fun anytime, anywhere," said?Steven Ma, the Chinese developer's VP.
Some of the company's titles, including?Dungeon and Fighter, Crossfire, League of Legends, and QQ Speed, will be adapted to run on the Switchblade, with keysets custom-created for each one. And the deal will ensure that the device will find a ready made audience in China.
No release date or pricing details are known at present, or even if similar deals will be struck in the US or Europe, but Razer promises more information to follow soon.
