You all saw that Macworld iPad Legacy video, the right? The Macworld Expo 2011 promo inspired Tron: Legacy?
If you were at the Expo, you likely saw it on the show floor, too; the TVs set up at the entrance included it in their loop. But Tron’s influence didn’t end there. A couple of exhibitors also had their Tron licensed items on display, and another was happy to talk about their Tron merchandise, even if it wasn’t available on the Grid…I mean the show floor.
The biggest presence came from Monster, who have a slew of high-end products ready for your next trip inside the computer.
On the left, there, you can see all the tie-ins they’re offering. You’ve got your T1 over-ear headphones, the Daft Punk edition of the same, the T3 in-ear headphones, the Tron Light Disc Audio Dock (pictured above right), and a charging station for you PS3 Slim owners. I’ve got a review of the Tron Light Disc Audio Dock about to go live here at Appletell, but I’ll tell you knownow it’s exactly what we Tron geeks would want such a system to be (you’ve got see the unit in person to really get a feel for how cool the effect is, especially with the accompanying iPhone app).
I’m also really digging the T1 over-ear headphones, of which the Daft Punk Limited Edition is pictured below.
Maybe I’m just a sucker for blue lights. More likely, though, I’m a sucker for great sound, and Monster never fails to deliver in that regard.
In addition, hidden in a corner of Dane-Elec’s booth were these Tron Light Cycle USB Drives.
They didn’t have them out on display, but it appears they come in a 4GB black model and 8GB collector’s limited edition Kevin Flynn white model. Both light up and have sound effects when inserted into a USB port, and come with bonus content. We’ll let you know what that is as soon as we find out, because there’s no information on the products at the Dane-Elec website. They are, however, available for purchase from Amazon.
And finally, this last item wasn’t available on the show floor, which was disappointing because it was included in their Macworld press release. I’m talking about PDP’s Tron iPhone 4 cases. And why weren’t they being shown at Macworld? Because only 100 were made of each of the two models available: Circle and Lines.
The circles, of course, represent Kevin Flynn’s disc. The lines were inspired by Sam Flynn’s suit. They don’t light up, but it was explained to me that their dual level construction gives them a kind of glowing effect. I’m looking forward to checking it out, provided you all don’t buy them up first. The Tron cases are currently available for $39.99 at PDP’s website.
I was hoping to see Tron show up in a couple other booths, too…say, as an iPad skin or Mac game, but no such luck. Still, if you’re into the movie, I imagine that plugging your Monster T1s into an iPhone protected by a PDP Series 2 Tron case is about as close to the Grid as you’re going to get without first stepping foot into Flynn’s Arcade.
