Skype gets to 27 million concurrent users, helped by iOS video calling

Skype logoSkype hit a new significant milestone yesterday, by having, at one point, no less than 27 million people simultaneously connected to its service. Skype's previous record, of 25 million users signed onto the service at the same time, was achieved back in November.

Adding two million concurrent users in little more than a month is undoubtedly connected to the launch of Skype video calling for iOS devices at the end of last year. It also seems that the Skype outage that went on for more than 24 hours in December has not impacted the service's growth in any significant way. It will be interesting to see how soon Skype manages to reach 30 million concurrent users.
