Vancouver is on its way to the Stanley Cup Finals, and that’s likely as it should be. After tonight, we’ll know if either Boston or Tampa Bay will be joining them for game one on June 1st. The following day, hockey will be joining your iPhone via Icebreaker Hockey from NaturalMotion Games, publisher of the million-selling Backbreaker franchise.
Icebreaker Hockey is an action hockey game that will see you deke, spin, skate, and score against defenders via both on-screen buttons and the accelerometer. The game features Game Center support with leaderboards and unlockable achievements as you play as one of eight original teams (in other words, not as the Canucks, Bruins, or other NHL teams).
Icebreaker Hockey uses morpheme, NaturalMotion’s graphically authorable animation engine, to deliver the highest quality animation to the iPhone and iPad. Shooting original motion capture on the ice with professional players, Icebreaker Hockey showcases a realistic fluidity of motion to rival console quality. Paired with a 3D arena setting complete with OpenGL 2.0 effects, ice reflections, advanced shading, ice spray, and more, players will be immersed in the environment and feel like they’re actually out on the ice.
Developed by Digital Legends Entertainment, Icebreaker Hockey will be available in the App Store June 2, 2011 for $2.99.
