Hotspot app launched for iOS
Skype WiFi (the artist formerly known as Skype Access) has made its way to the App Store, meaning there's now a new way of getting you WLAN fix when out and about with your iPhone or iPad.
Skype WiFi is a payment portal that works in partnership with public Wi-Fi networks (including some big players like Boingo, BT Openzone, FON and Spectrum Interactive) which lets you use your Skype credit to pay for web access.
The costs are dependent on the hotspot providers - in the UK the per minute cost ranges from 3p to 11p. A full list of partners can be found at skype.com/go/skypewifi.
"Skype WiFi is great for travellers all over the world: It's a must-have app, for your iPhone or iPad whether you're on a business trip or enjoying holidays abroad," said Shadi Mahassel, product manager.
"Skype WiFi offers you a cost-effective and easy way to get online with an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. Paying on a per-minute basis for?WiFi Internet access?is great when you're abroad as you can avoid data roaming charges when you update Facebook, send a tweet, make a Skype call or upload photos."
The app is free and available now. To celebrate its launch Skype is offering free access to the hotspots this weekend. Happy surfing Skypers.
