WordPress iOS app update

The WordPress iOS app has been updated to v2.8, and it would have not taken the folks at Automattic this long to update the app if the new features were not this good. The fact is, you’ll definitely find the new features useful, especially if you are a photo blogger and you use your iPhone camera a lot to take photos. The WordPress app now has a new feature called “Quick Photo,” which allows you to snap a picture and blog about it as quickly as you can. You’ll see the familiar camera icon appearing on the bottom of your blog list when you launch the app. Like most iOS apps, you simply tap on this button to launch your iOS device’s camera, Once you are satisfied with your photo, you can then add a title or a description about the photo. Then, publish your post and it’s done. A nice feature of this feature is that it remembers the last blog post you created using the Quick Photo feature. Unfortunately, the Quick Photo feature is available only for iPhone, but just for now. It will soon be enabled for the iPad version of the app.

Aside from the Quick Photo feature, the WordPress app also now has a Stat feature. This simply lets you check on your blog’s statistics while on the go. The Stat features daily, weekly, and monthly page views, top post views, referrers, search terms, and clicks. The one caveat is that this feature works only if your blog is hosted on WordPress.com. If your have a self-hosted blog, you need to install the stand-alone Stats plug-in or enable JetPack.

Finally, WordPress for iOS also adds localization for 10 more languages: Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Hebrew, German, Dutch, French, and Croatian.
